On Saturday, Megan Bozek walked into the front area of the Thornhill Community Centre with her arms full of treats! She was flanked by several of her Markham Thunder teammates, also carrying baked goods.
The professional players placed down their donations to the Markham Thunder Bake Sale proudly! You’d be hard-pressed to find professional male players laying down homemade baked goods for a fundraiser (except for maybe NFL teammates Michael Griffin and Brian Orakpo). Yet, before an important weekend series, Thunder players were doing their part to make the annual You Can Play game a success.
Bozek rubbed a stack of coins between her fingers, making eye contact with the team staff and volunteers with a fierceness her opponents are likely familiar with. She had $5 Canadian and planned to load up on treats after the first of two games against Montreal last weekend.
Before suiting up, Bozek spent some time chatting with me about making another USA Hockey roster, and yes #OneLeague (but you won’t want to miss her take)
Oh, and the treats we delicious! Kudos to Megan and all the players who contributed to the bake sale.
